New facilities

Please do take a moment to explore the new sermon player we’ve added to the site. Go to the ‘sermons’ page – link on the left – and choose a sermon to listen to. Some of the sermons also have my notes included. We’ve included John Weaver’s address from the East Midlands Baptist Association Day last Saturday, and other sermons will be added as quickly as we can manage.

So if you miss a week, you can always catch up. As well as listening using the player on our site, you can also subscribe to the sermons as a podcast and catch up when you are out and about.

Sermon Network

If you fancy listening to some other sermons, then our library is being hosted by the good people at Sermon.net and there’s a huge library of other preachers to investigate.

How to get to KMFC

If you would like to visit us, then any of the online mapping services will provide instructions: Streetmap and Google Maps among others.

About

Community

Kirby Muxloe is an attractive village, situated five miles west of Leicester and borders Leicester Forest East. The 2000 survey recorded a population of 4,500 with a further 6,200 in Leicester Forest East. The village is famous for its 15th century landmark, Kirby Muxloe Castle (now ruins) built by Lord Hastings as a fortified house. Kirby consists of mixed housing, although the majority is owner-occupied. There are Victorian terraces, early 1960s development, executive housing and large Victorian housing in a conservation area known as Kirby Fields. The village has a higher than average older population, and the immediate area includes a number of residential homes for the elderly. The village is served with local amenities, including an infant/junior school, local shops, post office and a regular bus service to and from Leicester. There’s a village website with a good overview of village activities

Congregation

Founded in 1883 and originally called The Kirby Muxloe Nonconformist Chapel, the first congregation met in Zion Chapel at thebuilding bottom of Main Street – now the Scouts Hall, although meetings had taken place at “Faith Cottage” from 1876. Our present building at the corner of Church Road and Main Street dates partly from 1897, and partly from 1953, as a bomb destroyed all of the Chapel except the Hall in 1940. The congregation is mostly local – drawn from Kirby and the surrounding villages. We always have an accredited Baptist Minister – currently Rev Bob Almond – but our members come from a wide spectrum of Christian upbringing, and our “roots” are diverse – hence the “Free Church” name.

The entries above are both taken from our Church Profile, which has a lot more information about what we do.
