Prayer Diary – August 2010

Sunday 1st Pray that many children will attend the Holiday Club service today. Pray that the Holy Spirit will fill those children so that they feel a need to know more about Jesus.

Monday 2nd Please pray that God will comfort people who have been recently bereaved, especially those bereaved by the train crash in eastern India and the families of the soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

Tuesday 3rd Please pray for students expecting exam results that will affect their futures.

Wednesday 4th Praise the Lord that Desford Free Church has received a grant from the council to help cover their costs for their Holiday Club (3rd to 5th August) and they have a good number of children attending.

Thursday 5th Thank the Lord that Friar Lane Baptist Church has a new minister coming next month.

Friday 6th Thank God for all the summer camps organised by Christian organisations in the UK and around Europe. Pray for the leaders, and for the children and teenagers who don’t know Jesus to receive His love, and those who know Him to discover more about living for Him.

Saturday 7th Thank the Lord for the time of prayer organised by Bob Knight each month. Pray that there will be many able to attend this morning and that they will feel God’s presence.

Sunday 8th As Malcolm Barratt and Jeff Blunt lead our services today, let us put away from our hearts and minds all that would prevent the Lord’s joy from entering us. Pray that we will be able to set our desires and thoughts on His ways, of unselfish love and service.

Please pray for the service at the Kathleen Rutland Home. Pray for comfort and blessings for the residents and staff.

Monday 9th Please pray for Leading Edge, the BUGB’s summer festival, starting today at Warwick. This year’s theme is “Walking the wire – following Jesus in a confusing world”. Pray that God will renew and refresh the faith and sense of mission of those attending.

Tuesday 10th Thank God for Jessica Roque’s input into events this summer and pray that she has a safe journey home.

Wednesday 11th Thank the Lord that He has answered our prayer last month for a new trustee for the Jakin Project. Continue to pray that the project will have sufficient funding.

Thursday 12th Thank God for the Williamson family and their missionary work in Peru. Thank God that their recent health problems seem to be resolved.

Friday 13th Please pray for all the people in the church who are unwell. Pray for those who have to attend hospital for tests and those undergoing treatment. Ask God to give

them comfort and strength when times are hard.

Saturday 14th Between 1999 and 2009, Bible translation agencies started projects in 700 languages – three times as many as in the previous decade. Pray for the ongoing work of translating the Scriptures into other languages.

Sunday 15th As Margaret Freeman and Brian Brookes lead our worship today; remember that the Lord is with us. Pray that He will help us to humble ourselves so that we can receive new life and strength for true service in the world.

Monday 16th Give thanks to God for His many blessings on the Christian school in Bethlehem. As the number of children increases, pray for safe and speedy progress with the new extension and the continued protection for the school, its children, and the staff who work there.

Tuesday 17th Thank God for all the hard work David McPhail has been doing to keep our premises in good repair.

Wednesday 18th Praise the Lord for the work of Tom Gill and East Africa Playgrounds and the benefits their work has for the children. Ask God to bless the charity this summer and to be with Sue Gill when they are out of contact.

Thursday 19th Give thanks for the Christians engaged in scientific and medical research and practice. Pray that they all will have wisdom and clarity about how their faith should affect their values, attitudes and working practices.

Friday 20th Praise God for all the teachers we have in our congregation. Thank God that Katherine Broadhurst’s service to education has been recognised with an OBE. Pray that Katherine will enjoy her retirement.

Saturday 21st Pray for good health for all Christian aid agency staff serving overseas in disaster situations – often in places where access to medical help is limited. Ask God to keep them safe and protected, particularly as they travel across dangerous terrain to reach rural communities.

Sunday 22nd As we take time to be quiet and wait on the Lord, pray that the Lord’s peace and joy will fill our lives. Please pray for Roger Whittaker and Graham Couling as they take our services today.

Monday 23rd Thank the Lord that His love can be seen in many charity events throughout the summer e.g. The Walk for Life which Naomi Hewson took part in last month. Pray that we will see the Lord’s work in many good deeds done around us today.

Tuesday 24th Although there are many companies having difficult times during the recession celebrate the success of those that are coming through the difficult time e.g. a company in Coalville is looking to expand and create new jobs.

Wednesday 25th President Zardari of Pakistan has directed his Minister of Minorities to set up a special helpline for victimised minorities, including those suffering violence. Praise God for this development and pray that this will benefit Christians and other faiths in Pakistan.

Thursday 26th Pray for wisdom for the Ministry Department of the BU as they seek to support churches in the implementation of changes in safeguarding legislation.

Friday 27th Please pray for Christian students who have graduated this summer. Pray that they will continue to trust God as they apply for jobs and go through times of change.

Saturday 28th Continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ abroad, who face persecution on a daily basis and live in fear of being arrested and falsely accused. Pray that God will surround them with His love and protection and that their faith may remain strong.

Sunday 29th Ask God to continue to build His Church that it may fulfil His purposes and do His will. Thank the Lord for the people who volunteered to lead and help with Y4God through the summer holiday period. Pray that all who have been involved have been blessed.

Monday 30th Please pray for Alice and Steve Price as they work with the youth group in their church in Surrey.

Tuesday 31st Thank the Lord that the Street Pastors are able to help people in the city and answer their questions about Christ. Pray for Ken Barrow, Derek Newbold, Alan and Lesley Humphries and other Street Pastors.

Prayer Diary – May 2010

1st Please pray for all attending the prayer meeting this morning. Ask the Lord to bless our Church and inspire us to greater service for Him. Remember the Baptist Assembly taking place in Plymouth. Pray that all are blessed by this special time together.

2nd Let us put our trust in Jesus and ask him to heal us, feed us and live in us, so that we will be ready with a timely word or a caring question to point others towards our Saviour. Pray for Brian Brookes and Simon Wagstaff as they lead our services today.

3rd Ask the Lord to be close to those who have lost their homes, been bereaved or injured in the earthquake in China. Pray also that the government of China will provide the resources to allow the people of the region affected to rebuild their homes and businesses. Continue to pray for the people of Haiti.

4th Please pray for the Ladies Fellowship as they meet this afternoon. Thank the Lord for this time of fellowship and the opportunity to hear Pamela Levens speak about the work of the Leprosy Mission.

5th Thank God that Jessica Roque is coming to work with us this summer. Pray that all the paper work can be accomplished in spite of the delays caused by the volcanic ash preventing the post reaching Jessica in America.

6th Pray that everyone will seek God’s guidance as they make their vote today in the general election. Please pray for the Friends and Neighbours AGM meeting. Thank the Lord for all the people who contribute regularly to the successful running of this group, especially Ann Fearn.

7th Thank the Lord for all who play and sing in the music group. Pray for them as they practice this evening.

8th Pray for Martin Knight as he is inducted into his new church in Gloucester. Thank the Lord for his dedicated service and pray that he has many happy years in Gloucester.

9th Please pray that the children and leaders of KFC will feel the Lord’s blessing as they worship this morning. Pray for Bob as he leads our morning service and the afternoon thanksgiving service for the centenary of Kirby Muxloe Primary School. Ask God to bless the Christian Aid collections this week. The money will go towards helping poor people of Nairobi living in slums with no clean water.

10th Pray for all university students who have exams this month. Pray also for the students preparing for GCSE s and A level exams.

11th Please pray for Bob and Jane Knight as they lead a special Safeguarding briefing at KMFC for church leaders and Ministers on behalf of East Midlands Baptist Association this evening.

12th Please pray for MPs who belong to “Christians in Parliament” and seek to bring a Christian perspective into politics. Pray that every new MP would realise their need for God’s guidance and strength. Ask God to bless and guide the deacons as they meet this evening.

13th Praise God for the opportunities that Christians have to be involved in schools. Pray for school workers and volunteers, clergy, groups bringing drama, music and other activities, and those delivering RE lessons.

14th Please pray for BMS worker Emily Chalke helping women caught up in the sex industry in Bangkok. Pray for continued safety and wisdom for Emily and her team as they reach out to these women.

15th Pray for BMS Misssion teams and the Project Teams of East African Playgrounds preparing to go to Africa and other countries this summer. Pray that the team members will bond together beforehand. Pray that the fund raising will produce the financial support they need. Pray that many attend the coffee morning today to help with raising funds for Lydia Gill to go to Africa this summer.

16th Please pray for Bob as he leads our All Age service today. Pray that we will all appreciate the importance of supporting the work of Christian Aid and give generously.

17th Praise God for Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament who is a Christian. Pray for him as he has to chair debates and represent Europe at important EU meetings.

18th Pray for Christine Preston as she adapts to life back in England and speaks to groups about her life in Bangladesh and Nepal. Thank the Lord for her dedication and enthusiasm.

19th Local churches in places such as Zimbabwe, the Congo and Pakistan have learnt to be patient in ways Christians in the West might find difficult to understand. Members of these churches endure extreme hunger, conflict and persecution. Pray that God will give the gift of patience to people enduring hardship, injustice or persecution around the world.

20th Please pray for Bob as he takes the assembly at Kirby Muxloe Primary school today. Pray that the children of the village will learn about Jesus and His love for them through Bob’s message and by our outreach through Kidzone , Holiday Club and events such as The Awakening last month. Continue to pray for both the children and the leaders of Kidzone. Ask God to fill the children with His grace that they will have a life-long faith.

Sunday 21st Pray for families who have recently been bereaved. Ask God to comfort them with His peace and compassion.

22nd Please pray for the planning and preparation required for Holiday Club. Ask God to guide us to reach families who do not think about going to Church. Thank the Lord for all the work that Bob and Angela do towards Holiday Club.

23rd Ask God to pour out His grace on this Pentecost Sunday so that we can serve Him ever more faithfully and effectively through prayer, speech and action.

24th Remember children and young adults who have suffered rejection, neglect and abuse. Pray that they will find security, love and strength.

25th Pray for an awareness of the spiritual gifts and abilities of others in the fellowship, as well as our own, so that we can encourage each other to use them for God’s purpose.

26th Please pray for the Baptist Churches in South Africa as they prepare to receive foreign visitors during the World Cup. Pray that the churches and their communities will reach out to these people in the love of Christ.

27th Please pray for Christians involved in counselling and other forms of pastoral care to experience the Holy Spirit’s help as they seek to support people who need their expertise and compassionate understanding. Ask God to reveal how to pray for and with those who come to see them.

28th Pray that the decisions of BMS, regarding work priorities in the needy country of Zimbabwe, are the right ones to enable the people of that country to experience life in all its fullness.

29th Pray for the success of the Big Church Day Out. Pray for the organisers: that all runs smoothly, pray that all who attend enjoy worshipping in a new way, and all who partake also feel the Lord’s blessing on this special occasion.

30th Pray for the people of Thailand that a just solution may be found to the present conflict. Pray also for long term reconciliation and that the people will remain calm and peaceful.

31st Thank the Lord for the commitment of teachers everywhere as they selflessly utilise their gifts for the benefit of others. Give thanks for the 25 years of dedicated and inspirational service which Sue Freeman has given to Kirby Muxloe Primary School as she retires from full time teaching at the end of term.
