What a great night!

Thanks to all the folk who came and presented ‘Awakening’ on Easter Sunday – a great time was had by all. The Seymour Road team were brilliant, and our folk, and many visitors, were all blown away by the commitment and enthusiasm of the team.

Here’s a video clip:

(Watch it in fullscreen 720p if you have a fast enough broadband link!)

Thanks to all the folk who came because of the Facebook adverts, and to KMFC folk who helped out with refreshments and more. Looking forward to 2011 already!

Scott Williamson

Scott is returning to the UK briefly for a family wedding this month, and is taking the opportunity to make a couple of visits to partner churches – and he’s coming to visit us here in Kirby.

So clear your diary – Monday 22nd March, 7:30pm. And because we wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to share a more informal time as well, we’re meeting an hour beforehand for a bring-and-share tea.

We really hope that folk from all the local Baptist Churches that are in touch with Scott and Anjanette will be able to come and join us!

More details under the ‘Mission’ tab!

Scott will be bringing news of how things are going – I’m sure you all regularly read his blog anyway, but just in case you’ve missed some of the latest news, let me mention a couple of things:

They’ve just recently had their second baptismal service:

And here’s what Scott wrote:

How wonderful to have our second baptismal service at El Puente Cafe Iglesia . Our small church plant is growing and people are becoming more committed to God and to the church fellowship which is really wonderful to see! Church life in Peru is certainly different for us Scott pumped up the paddling pool, filled it with cold and then added hot water, arranged the songs on the computer, set up the PA as well as preaching the sermon and then baptising Carlotta!

And Scott also visited Yucay:

Men in the Kitchen cooking up a storm!

There is a wonderful community spirit in Yucay , recently when Scott visited he was surprised to discover that the men in the village decided to give the ladies a break and to take responsibility for cooking for 300 people that day. Many people donate dry goods but what they are really missing is fish and meat so we took out a huge box of fish which they were delighted with !

Street Pastors in Blaby District

Sp_logo_2The ‘Street Pastors’ project that was launched at Enderby Police HQ back in June continues to progress – a number of application forms are out with potential Street Pastors, and the training programme is nearly all in place for a start later this month. If you are interested in preparing for this really valuable ministry, then speak to Bob, or contact Ann Murphy directly.

A big part of the preparations is obtaining funding for the project, and we have an application in to the ‘Community Cashback’ scheme. Here’s what the scheme organiser says:

Thousands of pounds worth of criminals’ cash could be used to fund community projects in Leicestershire and Rutland – and the public can help decide which projects the money goes to.

As part of the national Community Cashback scheme, £95,000 worth of criminals’ money recovered by the courts is up for grabs to be reinvested in local projects aimed at cutting crime and anti-social behaviour.

Last month, the Leicestershire and Rutland Criminal Justice Board (LCJB) asked people to nominate worthwhile projects in need of a cash boost. Local people from across Leicestershire and Rutland showed their enthusiasm and dedication to helping their communities by nominating more than 70 worthwhile projects in need of cash. After careful consideration by a judging panel, 13 projects have been shortlisted.

Now local people have until 10am on September 14 to have their say on the shortlisted Community Cashback bids in Leicestershire and Rutland.

Here’s the interesting bit – local people get to decide where the money goes. Visit the cashback website at www.cashback.cjsonline.gov.uk and vote for the Street Pastors initiative – your vote really does make a difference!

Stamps for the Leprosy Mission

I have now taken over the responsibility of trimming the stamps and sending them to the lady that has taken over from the man that came to talk to the Friends and Neighbours Group.

The lady lives in Nottingham so a batch of stamps will be posted to her from time to time.

Please give your stamps directly to me on a Sunday morning or at another time when you see me.

Over the next few weeks more and more people – not just the Pastor – will be contributing content to this website, so please check back often. Most of the Church organisations will post details of their forthcoming meetings here

image And we’ll be adding a couple of new features soon. There’ll be information about our Mission links – we’re part of a group of local Baptist Churches supporting Scott and Anjanette Williamson working with the BMS in Peru.

Scott & Anjanette have lots of ways to keep in touch – through their blog, through Facebook, and through updates on the BMS website, so we won’t post everything again here. But we will link to their latest news!

And if all goes well, we hope to add a facility to listen to a podcast of the Sunday sermon. Watch this space!
